The Grand Canyon versus the Smoke Stacks
Can you determine the winner?
Steve and I have been trying to make heads or tales of this one for months and we're completely baffled. It's because of this that I felt compelled to write about it here. Even though I'm straying a bit from nature I just have to share this as I find it incredibly interesting and it's becoming a little social experiment for me.
First a little background information that you'll need. As you know, Steve and I are nature photographers primarily. However from time to time we come across situations in which the light is right and the scene before us is so interesting that we feel compelled to photograph it. In addition to offering nature photography prints on this website we sell these other striking images through a stock agency for editorial purposes and the like.
Here's where it gets really interesting. Take a look at the two following images. Both incredibly strong. In fact they truly represent the saying "a picture is worth a thousand words"
Now here's the trivia question. Which image of the two has been most popular in terms of overall interest?
Can you guess?
If you guessed the smoke stack image on the right you're correct. For some reason it it our most popular image to date! We cannot figure out why? Perhaps more attention is being paid to the environment in publications, and we're hoping that this is the case. These days the spolight is on pollution, the environment and conservation, thank goodness for that! Of course, the image on the left of the magnificant Grand Canyon is very popular but it doesn't even come close to that of the image on the right. I hope to some day find out why and when I do I'll be sure to post an update for you.
